Spring in Worcester County, Maryland, lends itself to great festivals and events. Whether in Ocean City on the beach or on Assateague Island, the Worcester County calendar of events is chock-full. Here are 10 spring festivals and events you won’t want to miss in 2016.
Artists from all over converge on Snow Hill and the vacinity to participate in this sell-out event. More than 65 artists from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and beyamp;ond will come to Snow Hill for this three day Plein Air event sponsored by Bishop's Stock Fine Art and Fine Craft and the Arts & Entertainment District, Arts on the River.
Join us for this year's Spring Celebration from 10am to 5pm. Our celebration will coincide with the Berlin Little League Parade that morning at 8am. Then the day will be filled with themed games and crafts, a moon bounce, face-painting, story time and more. All games and crafts will be covered by the one time purchase of a wristband for 5 dollars. We will also be featuring a kid’s “tea” party in the Visitor’s Center with baked goods, “tea” (water, milk, juice), sweets, and a take home tea cup for 5 dollars!
Most cities celebrate restaurant week for seven days, but not Ocean City, Maryland. It will take two weeks to make your way through some of the best restaurants in town. Hit up old favorites or get to that one place you’ve been dying to try with 14 days of fixed-price menus. In addition to their regular menu, participating Restaurant Week establishments offer special Restaurant Week fixed price menu options. They may offer a $10, $20, $30, or $40 fixed menu price that may even include dessert! Dining options range from simple to fine dining.
If you’re a birdwatcher with a few birds to cross off your bucket list, you’ll want to mark your calendar for the annual Delmarva Birding Weekend. The schedule will hit locations all over Worcester County, such as DuPont Nature Center, Redden State Forest, Assateague Island, Smith Island and Williams’ Point, as well as a few paddling and pontoon outings.
The Ocean City Springfest is a favorite for families, and it will be even more so in 2016 when it coincides with Mother’s Day. The four-day festival takes over the southern portion of the famous Ocean City Boardwalk with food, activities and live music. This year’s schedule performers include Vince Gill, Beatlemania Again, and Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. Best of all, admission is free, so you and your family can make a weekend of it.
It wouldn’t be summer without an outdoor jazz concert. Grab your lawn chairs for the all-day Jazz and Blues Bash in downtown Berlin. The music takes place on two stages, and you can browse local artwork and sip a drink from the beer and wine tent while you listen. Horse and carriage rides provide a fun afternoon break.
It’s a flat, fast, fun and beautiful bike ride on rural roads that wind through the Pocomoke Forest and local farms. FREE farm fresh ice cream from local working dairy on ALL routes. This family event becomes more popular each year. Entertainment for the kids, exhibits, and live music enhance the main event, a crab soup cookoff with local professional chefs competing for the title of "Best Crab Soup." Adding to the fun, the public can sample and vote for a small fee.
New this year! The town of Snow Hill and Walk on Water are hosting a stand-up paddleboarding race event for two days in June, with a variety of race lengths for people of all ages and skill levels. Shorter races take place on Saturday, including a kids' race (one lap around Goat Island), a 3-mile race and 6-mile race. Sunday features the 17-mile endurance race. Vendors, food and live music will take place at a park overlooking the Pocomoke River, and awards will be given out during the event.
After you see the custom cars and trucks at the convention center, make your way to the beach to view the exciting Ocean City Air Show. See U.S. Navy Blue Angels in action, as well as Breitling jets and F-22s. Treat yourself with a ticket to the VIP rooftop viewing area to get a 27-degree view of the action in the sky and on the beach below.
