Here's a look at the top places stay, places to eat and things to do in Berlin, Maryland, in Worcester County.
Where to Stay
There are a lot of fantastic, historic inns in Berlin, including Waystead Inn, a bed and breakfast inn with a robin's egg blue exterior that's hard to miss. It's an intimate inn for a weekend getaway with five separate rooms—each of which has its own character. The inn was built in 1893 and was originally used as a courthouse before it was converted into a home and then a bed and breakfast inn in 2011. The newly restored inn offers complimentary breakfasts that include delicious local specialties including crab cake omelets, cheese soufflé, and shrimp and grits.
For a more upscale getaway, book a room at Hotel Atlantic located in an 1895 home with 15 guest rooms and a gardener's cottage. It has an authentic Victorian interior with a few modern conveniences like flat-screen televisions and wireless Internet. Or go for the more modest Holland House, a local favorite with five rooms for rent. Much like Waystead Inn, Holland House provides a smaller and more personal experience. The inn built in 1900 and is within walking distance from the downtown district full of shops and restaurants.
Where to Eat and Drink
Do you have an appreciation for top-of-the-line craft beer? You're in luck. Berlin earned its reputation for being the coolest small town in part to the uber cool local Burley Oak Brewery. There, beer drinkers can sample a wide range of innovative flavors with quirky names like Blueberry Peach J.R.E.A.M., Mango Blood Orange, Fruits of Our Labor, Coogi Sweater and more. Locals and visitors love to go to Burley Oak Brewery in the evenings to hear live music in the taproom. The brewery hosts weekly themed nights such as Bring Your Own Vinyl Night, Game Night and Pizza Night.
Another cool spot in Berlin is Gilbert's Provisions, a new destination for gourmet eats where you can get all the goods you need for a charcuterie board. The meat and cheese shop serves a wide range of homemade goods like fermented garlic, sausages, kimchi and pork mosaic (rounded pork belly with cubed pork shoulder).
Top Things to Do
Don't leave Berlin without purchasing a one-of-a-kind souvenir to take home. If you love the works of Dale Chihuly, you'll find your perfect souvenir at Jeffrey Auxer Designs, a blown glass gallery showcasing gorgeous pieces of all sizes and colors. You can purchase a piece from the gallery, or make your own ornament on-site for $25.
