Assateague Beach Wedding Permits
Weddings are allowed at both the state and national parks on Assateague. You will need a permit and there may be some rules to follow. Make sure you get your permit a few months in advance.
Assateague State Park (on the north end of the island) allows weddings and other special events on the beach in the Day Use area, however any areas of the beach are not sectioned off for such events. Access to the beach must be available to the general public at all times. Permits are not required, but guests are asked to contact the Park’s Headquarters at (410) 641-2120 ext. 10 at least a week in advance of the event. Special events are prohibited within National Park Service areas without a permit. Requests for special events within the National Seashore must be made in writing, using the Special Use Permit Application Form. A $50.00 application fee is the minimum fee charged. Additional costs will be billed at the termination of the permit. Performance bonds and liability insurance may be required. Please allow adequate time for processing and mailing permits-a minimum of 10 business days. An area at North Ocean Beach in Maryland has been designated for special events, such as weddings and beach parties. Call the ranger station of the National Park Service at 410-641-3030 for more information.
